Cadwallader Range Wilderness Traverse
Our lead Hiking Guide Dave Sarkany has found a few extra days in his summer to put together this exciting new 5-day wilderness trip in the Cadwallader Range of BC!
The Cadwallader Range is north of Pemberton and includes a vast array of terrain on the border between the Chilcotin and Coast mountains. The terrain is rugged and wild, but the rewards are spectacular views and a true wilderness experience!

Cost Details
- All guiding services with ACMG-certified Guide Dave Sarkany
- All Campsite and Wilderness camping fees, if required
- Satellite communication device with daily check-in available for each participant
- All bear safety equipment, including food hang and storage bags, bear deterrent
- Return pick-up and transportation from the end of the traverse
- Emergency and first aid supplies
- All personal backpacking gear and clothing
- Camping gear – tents, stoves, cooksets, etc
- All meals and snacks (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) starting with lunch on Day-1
- Transportation to/from trailheads (near Pemberton, BC)
- Any costs associated with early departure are the responsibility of the participant

This is a true wilderness multi-day backpacking adventure, through some amazing alpine regions in Southwest BC with a small group of like-minded adventurers!
Located in the Cadwallader Range near Pemberton, BC, this region is real wilderness – trails are few and far between, and you will spend most of your time exploring new off-trail routes as you make your way each day.
You will be in the company of one of the top Guides in Canada, Dave Sarkany. A veteran of countless expeditions through the Coast Mountains, Dave has a wealth of experience with decades of hiking, ski touring, climbing, and kayaking. Dave will keep you in awe with his knowledge of the region and his tales of adventures in the mountains as he safely guides you through this amazing landscape.
Pre-Planning
Prior to the trip dates, there will be a Zoom session to go over details, logistics and pre-trip planning for the Cadwallader Wilderness traverse. In addition, trip planning will also take place by email and phone calls with our staff and lead guide in advance of the trip dates, providing ample time and opportunity to ensure everyone is properly prepared.
Day-1 (August 20, 2025)
On the first day of the trip, the team will meet in Whistler, BC. The specific meeting time/location will be detailed closer to the trip dates.
After introductions of the team, final gear checks, weather and safety updates, the team will head out to the Phelix Creek trailhead near Birkenhead Lake, and start on the hike into the sub-alpine.
Day-2 through Day-5 (August 21-24, 2025)
The following 4 days are spent traversing westwards through the sub-alpine and alpine regions of the Cadwallader Range and exploring the ridges, peaks, and sub-alpine meadows and valleys. You will finish the traverse at Hope Creek, near the Hurley River Road. At the end of the trip, a pre-arranged shuttle will be there to transport the team back to the Pemberton Valley and your vehicles.

In addition to the general guidance provided by this Wilderness Backpacking Gear List, there will be a detailed package of pre-trip planning materials sent out to each participant in advance of the trip with comprehensive advice on how to plan and pack for the traverse. Trip planning will take place by email, Live Zoom session, and phone calls in advance as well, providing ample time and opportunity to ensure everyone is properly prepared.
