Pre Requisites:
No previous First Aid course experience required. Participants should be in good physical condition and have a strong understanding of the English language.
  • The WFR course runs from May 5th to May 14th, 2017, inclusive. Please note though, that Friday May 5 is an evening session only for CPR, and will start at 4 pm.

    May 6 the course will start at 8:00 am promptly, with most days completing by 5:00 pm. Some sessions may start at different times and be held in different field locations, this information will be covered during the first class session.

    May 10 is a non-instructional day, though students are encouraged to take this time and practice skills and review the material.

  • This is a nationally recognized program that gives participants the training needed to respond to emergencies in remote settings. This course is designed to provide students with the tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Teaching topics include - but are not limited to - patient assessment and long-term treatment, wound management, extremity injuries (e.g. fractures), medical illnesses, environmental injuries, with emphasis on injury prevention and decision-making in a Wilderness environment. We offer FULL certification in CPR (C) with AED as part of this course.

    There is a short exam at the end of the course. A Recertification course is available for those who have already completed the WFR previously -

  • The Wilderness First Responder course conducted from May 5-14, 2017 will be conducted at the West Vancouver Cricket Club, located at 1290 Third Street, West Vancouver, BC. Practical field sessions will be held outdoors near the classroom, as well as at a variety of sites on the North Shore, and may require driving to get to some sites.

    The main class location is just off the north side of the Trans Canada Highway, on the west side of the Capilano River. Please check out the map below for the specific location:

  • Our Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course starts on Day-1 at 4 pm with an evening session for CPR.

    On the 2nd day of the scheduled course, class sessions will begin promptly at 8 am. There will be a 45 minute lunch break each day, and the course will end at approx. 5:00 pm.

    There may also be one day scheduled that will include an evening field scenario, details will be finalized during the course. Please note that there will be reading assignments given for each evening to be completed as well.

    The final day of the course will include a practical and written exam.

    Pre-course reading material will be assigned and sent to you in advance of the course; this forms a critical component of the course and you will be expected to allow time in advance to study and prepare.

    The course will be split between classroom and field sessions, please arrive each day prepared for conducting field simulations outdoors in all weather conditions.
