Custom Crevasse Rescue course format
Canada West Mountain School recommends 2-days to adequately become confident in mastering the essential Crevasse Rescue skills. Day-1 is focused on teaching and practicing essential rope management and technical rescue systems; Day-1 is often conducted in Squamish as a dry-land training session, though it can also be conducted in a local alpine region such as Whistler or Seymour.Day-2 is spent practicing and refining the complete rope rescue systems including building snow anchors, creating a rescue strategy and applying & implementing a variety of different rescue systems. This day is ideally conducted in a local alpine region such as Whistler or Seymour, where there is easy access to an adequate snowpack for training purposes.
Custom 1-day Crevasse Rescue training
We will conduct a 1-day training course on a Custom basis if requested. 1-day training courses will ideally be held in a local alpine region, such as Seymour or Whistler, and are dependent on the following:
- All participants have previous experience (and are comfortable) with technical rope systems including belaying, rappelling, rigging climbing anchor systems in an outdoors environment
- All participants are in excellent or better physical condition
- (Winter training) Participants are all experienced backcountry skiers or split-boarders
- (Winter training) Participants must have AST-1 or equivalent experience
Please contact the Canada West Mountain School office directly to discuss the details of your specific training needs and we will help you assess if a 1-day or 2-day program is suitable.
